Those are the latest reports we are getting about the Swedish mid-size luxury crossover. The current generation turns 7 years soon and it’s now obvious that it won’t be in production as long as the previous generation, which lasted for an impressive 12 years. The new generation is about to come as the Volvo XC90 2024 and we are about to see a plethora of interesting novelties.
Of all, we should mention that this will be the first model to ride on an updated version of the SPA platform. We are about to see a new styling, new interior design and loads of new features. Of course, the new version will bring improvements in terms of weight reduction, efficiency etc. The new version of the platform completely supports electrification. Another aspect that should bring significant improvements in terms of ride quality. The current model offers a little bit stiffer ride than you would normally expect from a premium mid-size crossover, so the new suspension setup should fix this issue if Volvo wants to remain competitive in the segment.

Some rendering photos have already appeared on the network and from what we can see, it looks that the company will stick to the evolutionary approach. In terms of dimensions, we don’t expect significant changes, though the new model will probably gain a couple of inches in wheelbase, in order to provide more space on the inside.

Speaking of the inside, the new cabin will bring a completely new layout. We count on further improvements in terms of the interior quality but we have to say that the current model still looks pretty fresh from the inside. Therefore, we don’t expect any drawbacks in terms of the cabin design, whether it’s about the quality or interior features.

As we already mentioned, the new platform will be completely compatible in terms of electrification, that should be one of the model’s biggest strength. At this point, we don’t know the exact details about the new all-electric version, but we count on respectable range and performances.
The new all-electric version, the Volvo XC90 2024 hybrid also seems like a certain thing. The current generation already comes in a PHEV layout and comes with a pretty amazing 400-hp setup. The next generation is also expected to come in a mild hybrid setup, while gasoline models should remain in the offer as well. Of course, we are talking about small and efficient turbo-four engines. On the other side, diesel engines won’t be in the offer, not even in Europe and similar markets.

Among many novelties that are coming with this redesign, one that really draws attention is that the Swedish manufacturer will get one more step closer to the completely autonomous driving. This time, we are talking about Level 4 autonomous driving. Volvo gave a brief explanation of the whole system but we won’t bother you with technical things. What’s important to know is that this car will be so advanced that it will be able to complete the whole route, from point A to point B, without human intervention. That’s just one step away from vehicles without steering wheel, gas pedals etc.

The Volvo XC90 2024 is about to hit the market sometime in the next year. It is still early to talk about more precise details. When it comes to the price, the current model starts around 49.000 dollars and we don’t expect significant changes. The competition will remain the same and includes models like Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7, Lexus RX etc.
